WSF WIRELESS INSTALLATION PROJECT

WASHINGTON

Art Anderson worked as a consultant to the Parsons Corporation in the installation of wireless internet (Wi-Fi) connections aboard the vessels and in the terminals of the Washington State Ferry system. Parsons is the original contractor for providing Wi-Fi service to WSF customers, now managed by Boingo Wireless.

Because of our extensive experience working on both WSF vessels and terminals, Parsons contracted with us to provide the necessary engineering services to install the equipment. Our scope of work included providing inspections, drawings, coordinating with WSF personnel and participating in project meetings.

The standard drawings we provided included details for mounting Wi-Fi antennas. We participated in a kickoff meeting with Parsons and WSF personnel to agree on our approach and gain commitment on the turnaround for submittals.

Our on-site project representative coordinated between ship personnel, WSF inspectors, shipyard workers, network installers and Parsons as the prime consultant. When installations had to be altered to suit found conditions, he obtained buy-in from WSF inspectors and engineers. Our representative also wrote informal daily status reports and ensured the vessel was clean and ready to be in service for morning runs.
After completion of design, we were also tasked with providing construction support services for the installation of the Wi-Fi equipment. This included performing inspections of the equipment as constructed and verification that installations were conducted according to design.
