Every year, National Professional Engineers Day gives us a moment to recognize the licensed engineers whose work shapes our communities, industries, and futures. At Art Anderson, we’re proud to celebrate the Professional Engineers (PEs) who bring innovation, safety, and precision to every project we touch — from ships to shorelines to civic infrastructure.

Why Professional Engineers (PEs) Licensure Matters

Professional Engineers are more than technical experts — they are licensed professionals who uphold the highest standards of safety, ethics, and public welfare. Their work ensures that the systems we rely on every day — from ships to buildings to infrastructure — are designed and executed with precision and accountability.

  • Public Safety: PEs are legally and ethically responsible for the safety of their designs.
  • Professional Recognition: The PE title is a mark of trust, expertise, and leadership.
  • Career Advancement: Many senior roles, especially in government or consulting, require or prefer PE licensure.

The Path to Licensure

Becoming a licensed Professional Engineer is more than a credential — it’s a testament to dedication, experience, and integrity. The process begins with an accredited engineering degree, followed by passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam to earn the title of Engineer-in-Training (EIT). After several years of supervised, hands-on experience, candidates take the rigorous Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) exam in their specialty. Once licensed, PEs are required to stay current with continuing education, reinforcing their commitment to lifelong learning, evolving technologies, and public welfare. At its core, licensure is about trust — giving clients, communities, and the public confidence in the systems and structures engineers design.

At Art Anderson, we’re proud to support our engineers on every step of that journey — from interns and EITs to licensed professionals. Their work makes a lasting impact on our clients, our communities, and our company.

Join us in celebrating #LicensedPEday and thanking the engineers who make our world work better.
