Mechanical Engineer

The Art Anderson team is excited to bring on a talented Mechanical Engineer ready to join our fast-paced work environment. You will be an integral part of a team that is modernizing NOAA’s fleet of research vessels, designing one of a kind and innovative large floating structures to support the Northwest’s critical fish populations, and supporting our local ferry systems by solving challenging propulsion and structural problems. The candidate must be a self-starter and have excellent teamwork skills. Must have the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and possess excellent communication, coordination, and people skills. Needs the ability to perform calculations, prepare drawings, reports, trade studies, and other technical documentation as assigned in accordance with accepted standards of care.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop designs mechanical system within the maritime industry including:
    • Piping system design (potable water, plumbing, chilled water, fuel system, etc.)
    • HVAC system design (heat loads, equipment selection, duct pressure loss, etc.)
    • Foundation design (for deck machinery, lifting devices, and misc. equipment)
  • Produce calculation and technical specifications of mechanical systems
  • Coordinate with CAD team to develop designs, models, and drawing development
  • Work independently and collaboratively

The salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and skillsets, but a standard salary between $80K – $120K is expected.

A hybrid of in-office and remote work is an option based on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and reputation.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5-10 years’ experience in the marine industry developing concept, early-stage, contract, and detail design.
  • Experience preparing piping, HVAC, foundation designs and calculations and developing and technical specifications.
  • Problem solving and decision making
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Physically able to conduct site visits, field investigations and ship checks including being in confined spaces, climbing ladders, and lifting up to 25 pounds, in both cold and hot environments.
  • Travel is required based on client need. Generally this is less than 20 nonconsecutive days a year.
  • This position may require military base access for project site visits, therefore US Citizenship is required.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current P.E. License
  • Knowledge of classification society rules and regulatory body requirements including: USCG CFRs, ABS rules, and DNV.
  • Shipboard or work experience in a shipyard environment.
  • Experience using industry standard software such as AutoCAD, Rhino, PipeFlo, and FEMAP.
  • Passion for and ability to engage in business development and sales activities in the marine industry.
